Session Security Update

We are releasing a security update to create more secure sessions for our users. Enable biometrics for the longest sessions possible.

Updated over a week ago

On Saturday, Feb. 3rd, we released a scheduled maintenance update to Work Management which impacts ALL users in both the Work Management mobile app and web platform. ALL users must have the iOS 4.30.0 / Android 4.32.0 version of the Work Management mobile app installed to receive this update.

Again, for the app to be functional, users will need to update their Work Management mobile app if they do not have auto-updates enabled.

  • Apple: Please visit the App Store on your Apple device to manually update to the latest version of SightPlan Mobile for iOS 4.30.0.

  • Android: Please visit the Play Store. If an update is available, tap on the update button to begin updating to the latest version of SightPlan Mobile for Android 4.32.0.

The update to Work Management will improve overall security and the user experience. We highly encourage enabling biometrics when accessing the platform to improve the authentication process, allowing users to use their face or fingerprint as an identifier rather than inputting their username and password manually.

Once the update is in place, there will be new session timeouts for both the web platform and mobile app depending on if the user has biometrics enabled or disabled. Timeouts occur when a user exits the app or web platform and re-authentication is necessary. Users with biometrics enabled will remain logged in longer and will have more convenient access to the platform.

Re-authentication timeout durations post-release will be:

  • Work Management mobile app with biometrics ENABLED - the defaults for when biometrics are enabled are less strict:

    • 14-day idle timeout

    • 14-day absolute timeout

  • Work Management mobile app with biometrics DISABLED - the defaults for this scenario are the same as for Work Management for web, and are in line with industry standards:

    • 12-hour idle timeout

    • 24-hour absolute timeout

Once you have enabled biometrics on your mobile device it's easy to enable biometrics within SightPlan. Find more details on how to enable biometrics here.

FAQs:

What is the purpose of the Work Management Update?

  • This update to Work Management improves our alignment with industry best practices and brings the app into parity with SmartRent Manager’s security features.

Can I customize or extend the session timeout durations post-release?

  • Yes, we can customize session timeout durations within Work Management for your organization. Please inform your account manager of your desired durations and our engineers can implement those. Turnaround time varies based on backlog, but this should be completed within approximately one week.

What will the timeout durations be post-release?

  • Work Management mobile app with biometrics ENABLED -the defaults for when biometrics are enabled are less strict:

    • 14-day idle timeout

    • 14-day absolute timeout

  • Work Management mobile app with biometrics DISABLED - the defaults for this scenario are the same as for Work Management for Web, and are in line with industry standards:

    • 12-hour idle timeout

Is biometrics required to use the mobile app now?

  • No, but enabling biometrics on your mobile device will allow you to have the longest mobile session period possible of 14 days as shown above.

Can I opt out of this upgrade?

  • No, this upgrade will apply to all users when released.
